Flat Rock is a small, south-central Indiana community. It is 40 miles south of Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana, and 80 miles west of Cincinnati, Ohio. Flat Rock became populated by approximately 1,684 people in 2017 according to the United States Census Bureau. Flat Rock is estimated to be among the most populous unincorporated communities in Shelby County, Indiana.

Flat Rock, which is located near the Flatrock River, became platted in the mid-1850s. It is named for the nearby river, and there has been a United States Postal Service office operating in Flat Rock since the 1820s. Modern-day Flat Rock features the Flat Rock Christian Church and the Flat Rock Cafe. There are quaint neighborhoods in the community as well.
